After defeat of the French in Western Pennsylvania and the end of the French and Indian War, English Col Bouquet demanded the Indians return captives taken in in raids in earlier years along the frontier areas of Pennsylvania. After assembling approximately 300 returned captives at Fort Pitt for reunion with families, Col Bouquet brought the remaining captives back to Carlisle. Captives were returned to Carlisle on December 31, 1764 to be reunited with families. Members of Historic Carlisle will recreate Return of the Captives in the square at the center of Carlisle at 7:00 pm June 30 for the public.
Historic Carlisle will also provide a 45 minute walking tour of period sites near the center of Carlisle. Participants should assemble in the square where the tour will begin immediately following the Return of the Captives.
